CORE SUBJECT
Lebanon's Complaint Against Israel
Lebanon has called on the Security Council and the United Nations Secretary-General to take urgent action to deter Israel from its violations of Lebanese sovereignty... The Lebanese Foreign Ministry announced today, Friday, that "based on instructions from the Lebanese government, the ministry, through Lebanon's permanent mission to the United Nations in New York, has submitted a complaint to the Security Council in response to Israel's new and serious violation of Lebanon's sovereignty, which adds to its numerous violations and ongoing breaches. This violation consists of building two concrete walls in the shape of the letter (T) in the southwest and southeast of the town of Yaroun, within the internationally recognized Lebanese borders. The construction of these walls, which have been documented by UNIFIL forces, leads to the encroachment of additional Lebanese land and constitutes a breach of Resolution 1701 (2006) and the announcement of the cessation of hostilities (2024)." According to the Foreign Ministry's statement, Lebanon has demanded that the Security Council and the United Nations Secretary-General take urgent action to deter Israel from its violations of Lebanese sovereignty, compel it to remove the walls, and withdraw immediately from all areas it still occupies inside Lebanon, including the five border sites, and refrain from imposing what it calls buffer zones within Lebanese territory, and to respect its obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, and to allow the return of Lebanese civilians to their border villages. The Lebanese government reiterated in the complaint its readiness to enter into negotiations with Israel to end the occupation and stop the aggressions, and reaffirmed its commitment to proceed with implementing its pledges regarding the full application of Security Council Resolution 1701 without partiality or selection, as well as the announcement of the cessation of hostilities, which leads to restoring the Lebanese state's decision on peace and war, and restricting arms to itself and asserting its sovereignty over all its territory exclusively through its own forces. Lebanon also reviewed in the complaint the efforts made by the Lebanese army to implement the national plan aimed at restricting arms to the state, and enhancing its deployment south of the Litani River, in coordination with UNIFIL and the follow-up mechanism, according to the statement.
