Twitter Users: Occupation Soldiers Fled from Confrontation with Residents in Beit Jann and Responded by Killing Innocents

Social media platforms witnessed a wave of outrage following the killing of 13 people - including women and children - and the injury of others in an Israeli artillery and rocket bombardment that targeted the town of Beit Jann in the countryside of Damascus, located about 10 kilometers from the border with the occupied Golan.

The details of the assault began in the early hours of Friday when an Israeli force infiltrated the town's territory with "Hummer" vehicles to abduct two brothers.

During the withdrawal of the force towards one of the vehicles, the townspeople opened fire on the Israeli soldiers, resulting in the injury of 6 of them, including two officers and a soldier with serious injuries, according to field sources.

Following that, the Israeli air force and artillery launched a violent bombardment on the town, targeting anyone outside, leading to the martyrdom of many civilians due to the occupation's shelling, while an Israeli "Hummer" vehicle was destroyed and completely burned.

Videos circulated on social media showing the burning of the Israeli vehicle and the funeral of the victims' bodies amid a state of widespread anger and grief.

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the assault, stating in its statement that "the Syrian Arab Republic condemns in the strongest terms the crime committed by a patrol of the Israeli occupation army by infiltrating the territory of Beit Jann in the countryside of Damascus and its blatant assault on the residents and their properties, which led to direct clashes that forced the attacking patrol to withdraw."

In contrast, the spokesperson for the Israeli occupation army, Avichai Adraee, published a video clip of the Israeli bombardment, commenting, "Scenes from the airstrikes carried out by the air force in the area of Beit Jann village in southern Syria after engaging with terrorist elements, which resulted in the elimination of the terrorists from zero distance," according to his claim.

However, the responses from followers were angry, with one writing, "Do you mean by terrorists the two children and the woman that your brutal army killed? You are the root of terrorism and boast about bombing peaceful civilians!".

Bloggers described Netanyahu's government as "terrorist, seeking to spread chaos and instability in the region," asserting that the townspeople confronted the Israeli force and forced it to withdraw, before Israel responded by killing women and children and destroying civilian homes.

Others pointed out that "the terrorism charge that Israel brandishes is nothing but a cover to justify its operations deep in Syria, despite Damascus's commitment to ceasefire agreements and its proposal of clear peace tracks, but Israel chose escalation and rejected peace."

Twitter users confirmed that silence about the occupation, injustice, and siege is impossible, and that resistance is the natural human instinct to defend dignity and freedom. They added, "Beit Jann did not attack Israel and did not commit the seventh of October (2023), nor did it fire a single bullet at its soldiers, but it was attacked, destroyed, and occupied, and this injustice is what generated resistance. Today it is devastated, not due to resistance, but due to the occupation that destroyed it and arrested its sons, imposing itself as a force on its land. Beit Jann is the beginning of the road, and the path of resistance will not stop."
