Immigration Policy
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that his administration will work to permanently halt immigration from all "third world countries" until the American system fully recovers.
Trump also wrote on Truth Social that he will end all federal benefits and aid for "non-citizens," adding that he will "revoke citizenship from immigrants who undermine domestic peace, and deport any foreigner who poses a public burden or security risk or is incompatible with Western civilization," according to Reuters.
Trump's remarks came after the death of a National Guard member who was shot near the White House yesterday. Investigators said the shooter is an Afghan citizen.
He continued: "Even with our technological advancements, immigration policy has eroded those gains and the living conditions for many. I will permanently halt immigration from all third world countries to allow the American system to fully recover, end all millions of illegal acceptance cases (from the previous administration of President Joe Biden), including those signed by the sleepy Joe Biden's automatic signature pen, and remove anyone who does not represent value to the United States, or is unable to love our country, and end all federal benefits and aid for non-citizens of our country, and revoke citizenship from immigrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any foreign citizen who poses a public burden or security risk or is incompatible with Western civilization."
He went on to say: "These goals we will strive to achieve in order to achieve a significant reduction in the number of illegal and disruptive populations, including those who were accepted through unauthorized and illegal acceptance processes by the automatic signature pen," and "this situation can only be fully remedied by reversing immigration. Otherwise, happy Thanksgiving to everyone, except those who hate, steal, kill, and destroy everything that America represents - you will not stay here for long!"
Earlier yesterday, officials at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security stated that President Trump ordered a comprehensive review of asylum applications approved during the administration of former President Joe Biden, and green cards granted to citizens of 19 countries, following the National Guard shooting incident.
Officials say the Afghan immigrant suspected of shooting two National Guard members in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday entered the United States in 2021 under a resettlement program.
Hours after the shooting, which resulted in two National Guard members suffering serious injuries before one, a woman, died from her injuries, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced an immediate and indefinite suspension of all immigration applications related to Afghan citizens.
The Department of Homeland Security announced that the Trump administration is expanding that move to include a review of all asylum applications approved during the Biden administration.
The suspect in the shooting of the National Guard members was granted asylum this year, during Trump's administration, according to a U.S. government file reviewed by Reuters.
Joseph Edlow, director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, stated in a statement that he also directed a "thorough and careful re-examination of all green cards for every foreigner from all concerning countries" at Trump's request, without specifying which countries the U.S. considers concerning.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services referred Reuters to the travel ban imposed by Trump in June on citizens of 19 countries, including Afghanistan, Burundi, Laos, Togo, Venezuela, Sierra Leone, and Turkmenistan.
