Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptians Abroad, met on Wednesday with Nabih Berri, the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, during his official visit to Beirut to consult with senior Lebanese officials about regional developments and ways to support Lebanon and enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Abdel-Aty expressed his appreciation to the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament for his role in preserving Lebanon's unity, stability, and the cohesion of its national institutions. He congratulated Lebanon's leadership and people on the occasion of Independence Day, reaffirming Egypt's special pride in its historical relations with Lebanon and what these relations represent as a solid foundation for supporting Arab solidarity and joint action.
The two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Lebanon in various fields. Minister Abdel-Aty confirmed Cairo's readiness to expand cooperation in different sectors and continue supporting Lebanese efforts to achieve development and economic stability, reflecting the depth of relations between the two peoples.
Regarding regional conditions, Minister Abdel-Aty emphasized Egypt's steadfast position supporting Lebanon, its sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He stressed the importance of the full and simultaneous implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 without selectivity and the necessity of stopping repeated Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty, enabling the Lebanese army to assume its responsibilities across the entire territory of the state.
He also clarified that Egypt closely follows developments in southern Lebanon and works through its regional and international contacts to support efforts for de-escalation and prevent any escalation that may threaten the country's security and stability.
For his part, the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament affirmed the uniqueness of the relations between Egypt and Lebanon, appreciating the role Egypt plays and its sincere efforts to reduce tensions in Lebanon.
He expressed his appreciation for Egypt's supportive positions towards Lebanon and what they represent as a solid Arab depth in supporting its stability and unity, emphasizing his keenness to enhance cooperation and close coordination with Cairo to serve the common interests of the two brotherly peoples.
