The Dubai Chamber of Commerce, one of the three chambers operating under the umbrella of Dubai Chambers, organized 166 bilateral business meetings between companies operating in Dubai and their counterparts in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, during the first leg of the trade mission led by the chamber to Malaysia and Cambodia as part of the "New Horizons for External Expansion" initiative, which aims to support the expansion of local companies into promising global markets.
The trade mission to Malaysia included representatives from 20 specialized private sector companies in Dubai across various sectors including information technology and communications, construction and building materials, engineering services, retail, clothing and textiles, cosmetics, as well as consumer goods, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, tourism and hospitality, and oil and gas.
Saeed Al-Shamsi, Deputy CEO for International Relations at Dubai Chambers, affirmed the commitment to expanding commercial and investment cooperation between Dubai and promising global markets, enhancing Dubai's position as a key driver of international trade. He noted that the trade mission to Malaysia represents a qualitative step towards opening new avenues for local companies to expand internationally and develop new partnerships that contribute to the growth of non-oil trade and solidify Dubai's role as a global business hub.
During the mission's activities, the Dubai Chamber organized a business forum in Kuala Lumpur titled "Doing Business with Malaysia," in collaboration with the UAE Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, and the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry of Malaysia. The forum attracted 240 participants, including officials, business leaders, and representatives of Malaysian companies interested in exploring partnership opportunities with members of the trade mission.
The forum featured Saeed Al-Shamsi, Deputy CEO for International Relations at Dubai Chambers, N. Gopalakrishnan, President of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, and Dr. Sugumari Chanmugam, Senior Director of the Economic Integration Division for ASEAN at the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry of Malaysia.
During the forum, Dubai Chambers signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, aimed at developing bilateral trade relations and enhancing ties between the business communities in Dubai and Malaysia. The memorandum stipulates the enhancement of cooperation regarding inter-trade missions and business events.
The Dubai Chamber presented an extensive introductory presentation during the forum, highlighting the diverse economic landscape of the Emirate of Dubai and showcasing the key competitive advantages that make the emirate an ideal destination for Malaysian companies and investors looking to expand into new markets.
The forum also featured a presentation by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority, which highlighted the investment attributes of Malaysia, as well as the key sectors rich in business expansion opportunities and investment prospects in the Malaysian market.
The Dubai Chamber identified a range of promising export sectors from Dubai to Malaysia, including organic and inorganic chemicals, aircraft and spacecraft parts, jet and turbine engines, plastics, copper, iron, nickel, as well as coffee, tea, and dairy products. Meanwhile, the most prominent investment sectors available for Dubai companies in Malaysia include transportation and storage, real estate, hotels and tourism, plastic manufacturing, commercial services, and healthcare.
