As part of the UAE's celebrations for the 54th National Day, the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority is organizing the "National Day Traditional Rowing Race for 40-foot boats" on December 3, coinciding with the official announcement of the opening of the Zayed National Museum in the heart of the cultural district on Saadiyat Island. This reflects the authority's commitment to active and continuous participation in cultural, heritage, and national events.

The Mohammed Khalaf Council in Abu Dhabi will host an informational meeting and draw for the race tomorrow, Wednesday. The race will take place in four heats, featuring boats adorned with the colors of the UAE flag, with 68 boats and 1,156 sailors competing over a distance of 3 nautical miles. The organizing committee has decided that the race will start from Al Reem Island, passing by the Zayed National Museum and the Natural History Museum, until reaching the finish line opposite the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

The total prize value for the race exceeds 2 million and 400 thousand dirhams, with the first-place winner in each heat receiving 80,000 dirhams and a gold boat model, the second-place winner receiving 70,000 dirhams and a silver boat model, and the third-place winner receiving 60,000 dirhams and a bronze boat model. The remaining prizes will be distributed among the participants accordingly.

The race is part of the authority's efforts to revive maritime heritage and its races, highlighting the rich Emirati maritime legacy. It aims to enhance national identity by connecting generations, bringing together veteran sailors and youth, and shedding light on the historical role of the sea in the lives of the residents.

Additionally, organizing traditional maritime races during official events fosters values of cooperation, collective spirit, and patience inherent in Emirati society, while also uniting various community segments in a celebratory atmosphere that strengthens social bonds and unites everyone around national symbols.
