Sudan.. Rapid Support Forces Announce Approval of Ceasefire for 3 Months

Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo "Hemedti", the leader of the Rapid Support Forces militia, announced on Monday the approval of a humanitarian truce in Sudan that includes a cessation of hostilities for 3 months, in response to an initiative by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Hemedti stated in a speech: "We agree to form a field mechanism from the Quad countries (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, and the United States), the African Union, and IGAD to monitor the humanitarian truce," according to Al-Sharq News website.

He continued: "The humanitarian truce is the first step to stop hostilities and reach a comprehensive political solution to the roots of the Sudanese crisis. We hope that with the support of the international community and active participation from Sudanese people, we can reach a comprehensive political process that ends the war."

Upcoming Meeting in Washington

Sources told Al-Sharq on Sunday that the U.S. capital, Washington, will host an Arab-American meeting on Tuesday regarding the war in Sudan, attended by the senior advisor to the U.S. president for Arab and African affairs, Massad Boulos.

Boulos has initiated an intensive diplomatic effort with the concerned parties in Sudan aimed at achieving a ceasefire, immediately following Trump's announcement of his intention to work on the file at the request of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during his visit to Washington.

Sources informed Al-Sharq on Thursday that the U.S. initiative aims to achieve a ceasefire for 3 months, coinciding with the start of humanitarian aid deliveries, and running parallel to negotiations to reach a political solution.
