Killing of a Hezbollah Leader
Lebanese Hezbollah mourned today, Sunday, the leader Haytham Ali Al-Tabtabaei who was killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting him in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
The party stated in a statement today that Al-Tabtabaei (Abu Ali) was killed in an Israeli aggression on the area of Haret Hreik in the southern suburb of Beirut.
The statement added that "Al-Tabtabaei, the great leader, joined his brothers the martyrs after a journey in the ranks of resistance and working against the Israeli enemy until the last moment of his life."
It continued: "He was one of the leaders who laid the cornerstone for this resistance to remain strong, dignified, and capable of safeguarding the homeland and achieving victories."
The statement further noted that the killing of Al-Tabtabaei will increase the party's members' "determination to continue the path, as he was in his life a source of strength and inspiration for them."
It added that the party's fighters will move forward "to thwart all the projects of the Zionist enemy and its sponsor, America."
Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation army announced the assassination of Al-Tabtabaei, describing him as the "Chief of Staff of Hezbollah."
In a related context, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated in a statement that "the Israeli army attacked in the heart of Beirut the Chief of Staff of Hezbollah, who led the reinforcement and armament of the organization."
The Israeli airstrike on a building in the southern suburb of Beirut resulted in the death of 5 people and the injury of 28 others, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
Since last October, the Israeli occupation army has intensified its attacks on Lebanon in violation of the ceasefire agreement signed in November 2024, with media leaks about plans to launch a new attack on the Arab country.
The ceasefire agreement ended an aggression that Israel began on Lebanon in October 2023, which escalated into a full-scale war in September 2024, resulting in the deaths of more than 4,000 people and injuries to about 17,000 others.
During this war, Israel occupied 5 Lebanese hills in the south, and the agreement stipulated that it withdraw from them after 60 days, but it did not comply with that, while continuing to occupy other Lebanese areas for decades.
