The Theodore Bilharz Research Institute organized a comprehensive medical convoy to Wardan Village in Giza Governorate, under the patronage of Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Abdelaziz, the acting director of the institute and chairman of the board.
This convoy is part of the institute's ongoing efforts to utilize its scientific, research, and human resources to serve the community. The convoy provided free medical services, including medical examinations, preliminary analyses, ultrasound scans, and free medication for more than 300 cases from the village residents, in addition to referring several cases to the institute's hospital for further examinations, necessary treatment, and required surgeries.
The convoy included about 45 members of the medical, research, and administrative team from the departments of gastroenterology and liver, intensive care, nephrology, general surgery, urology, immunology, parasitology, microbiology, public health, biochemistry, pharmacology, environmental research, medical mollusks, and the therapeutic nutrition unit, along with several technicians.
The convoy also included awareness and educational lectures on the prevention of parasitic diseases such as bilharzia and liver failure, methods to reduce the transmission of infections, as well as raising awareness about the impacts of climate change and ways to mitigate its effects on public health. These activities received wide interaction from the village residents, who expressed their appreciation for the institute's efforts to reach them and provide free health support.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Abdelaziz explained that organizing medical convoys aims to enhance direct communication with citizens and provide treatment services based on the institute's scientific and research expertise, supporting the state's efforts to improve public health. He noted that the institute's role is not limited to treatment within its premises but extends to reaching citizens in their locations to provide health support, care, and community awareness, emphasizing that these convoys represent a living example of the integration of research and science with humanitarian duty.
