CORE SUBJECT
Peace Plan for Ukraine
French President Emmanuel Macron stated that many parts of the controversial peace plan for Ukraine cannot be implemented without the approval of European allies for Kyiv.
Macron, speaking on the sidelines of the G20 talks in South Africa, noted that proposals such as using frozen Russian assets and Ukraine's accession to the European Union can only be determined by the EU.
He pointed out that, "Europeans have the frozen assets... and the integration of Ukraine into Europe is the responsibility of the Europeans. What NATO does is the responsibility of NATO."
He added that the American plan includes many aspects that require broader approval.
He emphasized that European allies want peace, but a peace that takes into account the security interests of Ukraine and all of Europe.
France, Germany, and Britain are set to pressure the United States to reconsider the 28-point plan at a meeting in Geneva tomorrow, Sunday.
