French President Emmanuel Macron announced an upcoming meeting of the "Coalition of the Willing" on Tuesday to discuss the American plan for establishing peace in Ukraine.
This was stated in press remarks he made on Saturday on the sidelines of the G20 summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Regarding the American "peace plan" for Ukraine, the French president said that "it is good that it proposes peace and acknowledges important elements related to sovereignty and security guarantees."
He added that any initiative aimed at achieving peace in Ukraine is "a positive thing," while emphasizing that Europeans prefer a peace that also considers their own security elements.
He noted that the American "peace plan," despite not being negotiated with Europeans, expresses a lot on their behalf.
Macron stated that American, Ukrainian, and European negotiators will head to Geneva on Sunday, while the countries of the "Coalition of the Willing" will meet via video conference on November 25.
The "Coalition of the Willing" is an international formation announced after a summit held in London last March, which brought together European leaders and representatives of international organizations to discuss mechanisms for enhancing peace in Ukraine.
The coalition aims to what it calls "deter Russian aggression against Ukraine" and build sustainable peace in the region, while Moscow rejected the initiative, considering it would prolong the war instead of achieving peace between the two countries.
Additionally, Macron considered that the restrictions imposed on the Ukrainian army under the American "peace plan" "also limit the country's sovereignty."
He went on to say: If there are no deterrent elements, the Russians will return again and break their promises. We have seen that several times.
He emphasized the necessity of first achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine, considering that Russia is not inclined to accept a ceasefire despite the desire of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in that regard.
On Friday, the Associated Press published a version of a 28-point plan that it said the Trump administration prepared to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
According to media reports, Kyiv objected to several items in the proposed plan, including those related to Ukraine's relinquishment of additional territories in the east and its acceptance of not joining NATO permanently.
Since February 24, 2022, Russia has been conducting a military attack on its neighbor Ukraine and conditions its end on Kyiv's abandonment of joining Western military entities, which Kyiv considers "interference" in its affairs.
