CORE SUBJECT
Peace Plan in Ukraine
German Foreign Minister, Johan Wadephol, said on Friday that he sees the U.S.-backed plan to end the war in Ukraine as merely a list of points that Ukraine and Russia need to discuss urgently, but he noted that it is not a final plan.
He added from Brussels, where he is attending a meeting of ministers from countries in the Indo-Pacific region: "The German position is the European position, which means we support Ukraine. We want to ensure that Ukraine can discuss these points from a position of strength."
Earlier on Friday, Russian media reported that the Kremlin stated it had not yet been informed that Ukraine was ready to negotiate the peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, according to Reuters.
On Thursday, an American official confirmed a media report stating that the draft peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia includes a commitment from the United States and its European allies to provide security guarantees to Ukraine similar to those of NATO, pledging to respond to any future attacks against it.
A report published by the American site "Axios" stated that "any major, deliberate, and ongoing military attack in the future by Russia on Ukraine will be considered an attack that threatens peace and security in the transatlantic area, and the United States and its allies will respond accordingly, including the use of military force."
Additionally, President Donald Trump's plan to end the war in Ukraine includes concessions of territory to Russia and a reduction in the size of the Kyiv army, according to a draft proposal that has been circulated.
