CORE SUBJECT
U.S. Peace Plan
After the White House described the U.S. peace plan to end the war between Russia and Ukraine as "good and acceptable to both sides," the American website "Axios" revealed the points of the plan supported by President Donald Trump on Friday.
An American official, a Ukrainian official, and an informed source stated that Trump's peace plan between Moscow and Kyiv consists of 28 points, which include forcing Kyiv to relinquish additional territories in the east, restricting the size of its army, and agreeing never to join NATO.
The plan also includes Ukraine agreeing to be a non-nuclear state and being eligible for European Union membership.
NATO would agree not to station its forces in Ukraine while deploying European fighter jets in Poland.
Additionally, the plan includes economic elements such as directing some frozen Russian assets for the reconstruction of Ukraine, lifting sanctions imposed on Moscow, and an agreement between the United States and Russia for a long-term partnership in areas like artificial intelligence and mining, as well as Russia's return to the G8.
All parties would receive amnesty for their actions during the war.
The plan calls for Ukraine to hold elections within 100 days of reaching an agreement.
It also includes a provision to reimpose all sanctions on Russia if it invades Ukraine again.
Security Guarantees
In return, Ukraine receives reliable security guarantees, with Russia pledging not to launch further attacks on Ukrainian territory or any other countries in Europe.
According to "Axios," the peace plan includes recognizing Crimea, Luhansk, and Donetsk as de facto Russian territories. The area of Ukraine's withdrawal from Donetsk will be "demilitarized" and will not be entered by Russia.
The peace plan also includes freezing the front lines in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, and operating the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
A dialogue between Russia and NATO, mediated by the United States, will be held to resolve all security issues and create conditions for de-escalation to ensure global security and increase opportunities for future cooperation and economic development.
"Good for Both Sides"
The White House confirmed that the U.S. peace plan supported by President Donald Trump, which is under negotiation with Russia and Ukraine, is "good" for both sides.
White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt stated in a press briefing, "It is ongoing and evolving, but the president supports this plan. It is a good plan for both Russia and Ukraine, and we believe it will be acceptable to both sides."
Levitt also explained that U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have been "working secretly for a month" on this project "to understand what these countries might be willing to offer to reach a lasting peace."
Ukrainian Response
In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today, Thursday, that Ukrainian and American teams will work to implement the points of the plan to end the war.
Zelensky also stated in a post on the "X" platform that peace is necessary, expressing his appreciation for President Donald Trump's efforts to restore security in Europe.
For its part, Moscow confirmed that "any settlement must address the root causes of the conflict" between the two countries.
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, stated on Thursday that any peace plan for Ukraine must eliminate the root causes of the conflict, according to what was reported by Reuters.
