CORE SUBJECT
The War in Sudan
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman discussed with him yesterday the war in Sudan and the necessity of intervention to stop it.
He added during his speech at the Saudi-American Investment Forum in Washington on Wednesday evening that the Crown Prince told him that what is happening in Sudan is "horrific" due to the absence of government.
He noted that Bin Salman explained to him the complete culture and history of Sudan and requested his intervention to stop the war, as it would be the "greatest achievement he could accomplish."
He continued: "I began studying the Sudan file half an hour after the Saudi Crown Prince explained its importance, and the prince will play a strong role in working to end what is happening in Sudan."
Yesterday, Reuters reported from five informed sources that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will pressure U.S. President Donald Trump to personally intervene to help end the war in Sudan during their talks in Washington.
The sources, which include two Arab diplomats and three Western diplomats, clarified that the Saudi Crown Prince believes that direct pressure from Trump is essential to break the deadlock in the talks aimed at ending more than two and a half years of war, pointing to his role in achieving a ceasefire in Gaza last month.
According to the sources, Saudi Arabia aims to leverage this issue with Trump to benefit from his self-image as a "peace maker," as Trump has repeatedly stated that he seeks the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in addressing global conflicts.
The conflict erupted in 2023 amid a power struggle between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, resulting in significant bloodshed, widespread destruction, mass displacement, attracting foreign parties, and threatening the division of Sudan.
