CORE SUBJECT
Strengthening the Russian-African Strategic Partnership
Ambassador Salah Halima, Vice President of the Egyptian Council for African Affairs, stated that Russia's main goal in Africa is to enhance the existing strategic partnership with African countries based on justice and balance, away from bias or unequal conditions that characterize some European relations with the continent.
Halima explained, during an intervention on "Extra News" channel today, Saturday, that Russian-African relations focus on investment, trade activity, infrastructure, and the energy sector, pointing to the importance of this cooperation amid international sanctions imposed on Russia.
He mentioned that the partnership extends to multilateral levels to support Africa's role in international reforms, including the Security Council and the United Nations, clarifying that the Russian-African Forum is committed to the goals of Africa Agenda 2063, which includes 18 developmental sectors, with special focus on the economy, investment, health, and education, in addition to political cooperation in combating terrorism and enhancing African participation in the BRICS group.
Halima revealed that Russia aims to increase the volume of trade exchange with Africa from about 29 billion dollars to around 40 billion dollars by boosting investment in infrastructure and energy and activating the Continental Free Trade Area, reflecting a trend towards deepening sustainable economic partnership between the two sides.
The second ministerial conference of the "Russian-African Partnership" forum is being held with the participation of more than 50 African countries and wide attendance at the ministerial level, alongside a number of heads of regional organizations.
The conference comes as a continuation of the momentum established during the first ministerial conference in Sochi in November 2024, where the current edition focuses on enhancing economic, trade, and investment cooperation, supporting peace, security, and stability, and achieving sustainable development.
