The 23rd of July Theater in the city of El Mahalla El Kubra in Gharbia Governorate witnessed the launch of the Confrontation and Touring Theater activities, held under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed Fouad Henu, Minister of Culture, represented by the Artistic House of Theater affiliated with the Theater Sector, in cooperation with the General Authority for Cultural Palaces, headed by Major General Khaled El-Laban, and some other ministry sectors.
The theatrical play "Tota Tota," written by Dr. Tarek Ammar and directed by Saeed Mansi, revolved around prominent influential historical figures; the play portrayed the biographies of Egyptian icons in the fields of science, arts, and literature, including: the writer and literary figure Nabawiya Moussa, the great Egyptian scientist Dr. Ahmed Zewail, Ahmed Lotfi El-Sayed, a symbol of the Renaissance and Enlightenment movement in Egypt, the Islamic thinker Imam Muhammad Abduh, and Dr. Samira Moussa, the first Egyptian female nuclear scientist.
During the events, copies of publications, books, and printed materials issued by the Ministry of Culture sectors were distributed, in the presence of director Mohamed El Sharkawy, project manager, who explained that the Confrontation and Touring Theater project aims to establish the role of theater as a tool for enlightenment and awareness building, alongside making arts accessible to all segments of society, especially in villages and the most needy areas, within the ministry's vision to achieve cultural justice.
Regarding the tour of activities, Wael Shaheen, General Director of Culture in Gharbia, stated that the theatrical play "Tota Tota" tours several villages of the presidential initiative "Decent Life" in the governorate from the 19th to the 25th of this month, including: Zefta, Nahtay, Tafahna Al-Azab, Sandbast, and Abu Al-Juhur, in addition to a performance night at the Cultural Center Theater in the city of Tanta. He pointed out that the events include a diverse package of activities from the Cultural Palaces, such as storytelling workshops for children and artistic and handicraft workshops.
The Ministry of Culture had launched the sixth phase of the Confrontation and Touring Theater project starting last September from Qena Governorate, followed by Assiut, South Sinai, and Damietta governorates. The project activities continue until next June in several Egyptian governorates. The performances of the Confrontation and Touring Theater project in Gharbia Governorate are held in cooperation with the West and Central Delta Cultural Region managed by Mohamed Hamdi, along with several ministries, authorities, and institutions.
