The US nighttime strikes on sites in Syria resulted in the killing of at least five ISIS members, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on Saturday, a week after an attack that killed three Americans in Palmyra in central Syria.
The director of the Observatory, Rami Abdel Rahman, told Agence France-Presse that among the dead was "the leader of a cell responsible for drones" in Deir ez-Zor (east).
A Syrian security source told Agence France-Presse that the US raids targeted ISIS cells in the areas of Homs, Deir ez-Zor (east), and Raqqa (northeast).
The United States announced on Friday "striking more than 70 targets across central Syria using fighter jets, attack helicopters, and artillery," in what President Donald Trump described as a "very strong retaliatory strike," about a week after an attack that killed three Americans, including two soldiers, in Palmyra in Homs province in central Syria.
Washington attributed the Palmyra attack to ISIS, although the group did not claim responsibility.
