CORE SUBJECT

Egypt's support for Lebanon and strengthening bilateral relations

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, affirmed Egypt's firm and supportive stance towards Lebanon—its leadership, government, and people—and its constant keenness to support Lebanon during this critical phase in which it faces exceptional challenges on all levels.

Madbouly stated during the joint press conference with his counterpart, His Excellency Dr. Nawaf Salam, Prime Minister of the Lebanese Republic, held at the government palace in the capital Beirut, that Egypt views Lebanon as a fundamental pillar of stability in the Arab East. Egypt spares no effort in continuing its diligent endeavors to keep Lebanon away from any escalation.

He added: "I am pleased and honored to be today in the Lebanese capital Beirut, this dear Arab city that holds a special place in the heart of every Egyptian, and to meet Dr. Nawaf Salam, Prime Minister of the brotherly Lebanese Republic, in a visit that reflects the depth of the historical and fraternal relations that bind Egypt and Lebanon, which have always been based on mutual respect, sincere solidarity, and joint work for the interests of our two brotherly peoples."

The Prime Minister confirmed that this visit reflects the steadily growing pace of political communication between the two countries under the new Lebanese era, since President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, received General Joseph Aoun, President of the brotherly Lebanese Republic, in May 2025, followed by reciprocal visits that embodied the special and strong Egyptian-Lebanese relations and the shared keenness to elevate them to broader horizons.

Madbouly also praised the positive outcomes and great momentum resulting from Nawaf Salam's visits to Cairo, where His Excellency had the honor to meet the President of the Republic. These visits culminated in the holding of the tenth session of the Egyptian-Lebanese Higher Joint Committee, chaired by the prime ministers of both countries in Cairo last November, for the first time in six years.

He pointed out the signing of nearly fifteen agreements in economic, cultural, media, and diplomatic fields, reflecting a clear political will to push towards further deepening the relations between the two countries and the two brotherly peoples.

The Prime Minister added: "Today, we held an expanded and constructive meeting that addressed various aspects of bilateral cooperation, alongside discussing the political, economic, and security developments in the region. In this context, I would like to commend the efforts of His Excellency President General Joseph Aoun and the Lebanese government headed by Dr. Nawaf Salam, and the orientations included in their ministerial statement aimed at achieving stability, preserving civil peace, restoring the effectiveness of state institutions, foremost among them the Lebanese army, and enabling it to extend its authority over all Lebanese territories."

He also appreciated the strenuous efforts exerted by the Lebanese army to achieve this goal, within a gradual approach and a comprehensive national vision that preserves Lebanon's unity and cohesion, based on the Taif Agreement and relevant international resolutions, believing that a strong state is the guarantee and that inclusive legitimacy is the refuge.

He pointed out that Egypt reiterates its firm position rejecting Israel's repeated violations against Lebanese territories, as well as its occupation of parts of them, stressing the necessity of immediate and unconditional withdrawal from all Lebanese lands and respecting the ceasefire agreement, in addition to the full and non-selective implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

In conclusion, the Prime Minister indicated that Egypt affirms that Lebanon's stability and national unity are an integral part of the security and stability of the entire Arab region.
