Flick Delays Decision on His Future with Barcelona Despite Offer to Extend Until 2028

Spanish media reports have revealed the position of Flick, Barcelona's coach, regarding the club management's move to extend his contract for an additional season, despite his current contract running until the summer of 2027.

The newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" stated that Barcelona's management has already presented the idea of renewing the contract until June 2028 to the German coach's agent, as part of their efforts to establish technical stability and strengthen the coach's position within the dressing room, alongside affirming full confidence in the ongoing project.

The newspaper explained that the "Majestic" hotel in Barcelona recently hosted a meeting that brought Flick together with the club president Joan Laporta, before the sporting director Deco joined later, where the contract issue was discussed, with a clear desire from the management for the coach to start the next season with a longer-term agreement.

Despite the positive atmosphere and harmonious relationship between Flick and both Laporta and Deco, the coach prefers not to enter into official negotiations at this time, postponing any decision until after the end of the season. Flick, who will turn 61 next February, is fully focused on daily work and enjoying his experience with the team, without rushing into a long-term commitment.

The coach also takes into account the approaching presidential elections within Barcelona and the lack of clarity regarding the future of the current administration, which makes him cautious about signing an extended contract at this stage, especially since Laporta was the one who decided to hire him.

According to the newspaper, the team's success in achieving its goals this season, along with Laporta's continuation as club president, may open the door for Flick to agree to an extension for an additional season, given his connection to the club and his comfort living in Barcelona.
