CORE SUBJECT

Slovakia's refusal to finance Ukraine's military needs

Participants at the EU summit were unable to agree on the expropriation of Russian assets under the guise of an alleged reparations loan to Kyiv.

BRUSSELS, December 19. /TASS/. Bratislava refuses to continue financing Kyiv's military needs because it does not believe that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine can ever be resolved by force.

"Slovakia will not be part of any military loan for Ukraine, and we reject any additional financing, including from Slovak Republic resources, for military needs, because we do not believe in a military solution to the conflict," Reuters quoted the Prime Minister as saying.

Earlier, participants at the EU summit failed to agree on the expropriation of Russian assets under the pretext of a supposed reparations loan to Kyiv. Instead, the Union opted for an alternative loan of 90 billion euros that will fund Ukraine for two years. This amount is 50 billion euros less than the proposed reparations loan of 140 billion euros.

Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic refused to participate in financing Kyiv, which was explicitly stated in the final declaration on Ukraine. Budapest and Bratislava did not sign the document.
