CORE SUBJECT

NBA day highlighted by key performances from Brunson, Wembanyama, and Doncic

Here are the three most notable scenes from the regular season day of the North American basketball league:

Brunson Shines Again

Without Dominican Karl-Anthony Towns, forward Josh Hart, or center Mitchell Robinson, all resting, the Knicks overcame a double-digit deficit at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis to extend their winning streak to seven games.

They achieved this two days after winning their first NBA Cup title against Wemby’s Spurs, with a visibly exhausted Brunson.

The New York star, however, decided the game with a precise three-pointer with just under five seconds left on the clock, defended by Andrew Nembhard, finishing the night with 25 points and seven assists.

"I was trash to start the game," said a self-critical Brunson. "I want to thank my teammates for saving me; we found a way to win this game."

A brilliant defensive play by OG Anunoby sealed the victory for the Knicks. The British player stole the ball from Cameroonian Pascal Siakam, who was preparing to snatch a hard-fought win from Mike Brown’s team.

"No matter who is on the court, we expect to maintain our level," said Brown. "Our group likes to compete."

The Pacers, on their side, suffering the absence of their main figure, the injured Tyrese Haliburton, suffered their third consecutive loss and are second to last in the Eastern Conference with six wins and 21 losses.

Wemby and the Spurs Recover

The San Antonio Spurs turned the page on the NBA Cup and defeated the Washington Wizards 119-94 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Dylan Harper was the top scorer for the Texas team with 25 points, while the 21-year-old French prodigy Victor Wembanyama once again came off the bench, scoring 15 points and grabbing eight rebounds in 17 minutes of action.

"I have a lot of confidence right now," said Harper. "The coaches tell me they trust my talent and that I have to go out and do what I can."

The 19-year-old Harper had the best night of his career in the league, also recording five rebounds and three assists.

Wemby, who suffered the loss of his grandmother before the NBA Cup final, had his third consecutive game coming off the bench as part of his recovery process after an injury that kept him out for 12 games.

San Antonio showed their best version in a successful second half on offense, scoring 62 points, while their solid defense allowed only 41 points from the capital team.

Doncic’s Triple-Double Helps Lakers Bounce Back

The Los Angeles Lakers earned their seventh win of the season after overcoming a deficit of at least 10 points to beat the Utah Jazz 143-135.

The Lakers’ 143 points tonight set a season record for the visitors at the Delta Center (Utah).

Luka Doncic led the way to victory with 45 points, 10 rebounds, and 14 assists, while LeBron James added a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds.

"We managed to stop them at the right moment," highlighted Doncic. "It’s always tough to play on the road, 12-3 is a good record and we have to keep growing."

The 26-year-old Doncic recorded his tenth 40-point triple-double and ranks fourth on the NBA’s all-time list led by Oscar Robertson with 22.

The Lakers showed their best form in the fourth quarter, outscoring Utah 41-29, with Marcus Smart contributing five three-pointers on nine attempts.

For Utah, point guard Keynote George was the standout with 34 points but could do little to avoid the Jazz’s 15th loss of the season.
