The Mechanism meeting began at 10:00 AM Beirut time in Ras Naqoura, attended by the United Nations Coordinator in Lebanon, Janine Plasschaert, and the US envoy Morgan Ortagus, who attended yesterday's Paris meeting to support the Lebanese Army.
This is the fifteenth and final meeting of the year. It will be the second meeting for Simon Karam, the civilian head of the Lebanese delegation, which includes three officers from the Lebanese Army.
Internal reports indicate that the first meeting established the general framework, while today the controversial files are placed on the table, from the implementation of the November 27, 2024 agreement, to the mechanisms for implementing Resolution 1701, up to the issue of limiting weapons south of the Litani River and the deployment of the Lebanese Army.
Israeli Channel 12 reported on Thursday that Israel will raise its level of representation in negotiations with Lebanon.
The channel pointed out that the meeting, which is the second official direct meeting between the two sides, will address economic cooperation on the border, while unofficially it will discuss efforts to prevent the renewal of war.
Earlier, President Michel Aoun met with the head of the negotiating delegation in the 'Mechanism', former ambassador Simon Karam, and provided him with his directives ahead of the committee meeting scheduled for next Friday.
