Ninth Edition of the Sharjah Desert Theatre Festival
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the ninth edition of the Sharjah Desert Theatre Festival concluded on Wednesday, in the presence of Abdullah Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture and Festival President.
The audience of the closing night witnessed the performance of the play "Jamar Al-Ghuda," written by Faisal Jawad, directed by Abdulrahman Al Mulla, and performed by the Kalba Association for Folklore and Theatre.
The play depicts a realistic drama intertwining sincere love with motives of envy and jealousy.
A distinguished group of actors participated in the performance, including: Juma Ali, Faisal Al Darmaki, Amal Mohammed, Abeer Al Jasmi, Shaaban Sbeit, Mohammed Juma, Khalood Al Badiwi, Adel Sbeit, Fawziya Marouf, Samia Tasfarout, and Jawhar Al Matrooshi.
During the critical discussion that followed the performance, moderated by researcher Wafaa Al Shamsi (Oman), participants praised the outstanding youthful presence in the acting team and commended the quality of the script and the depth of the directorial vision that matched the unique atmosphere of the festival.
The festival, organized by the Department of Culture, began on December 12 and featured six theatrical performances from the UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, and Libya. The festival also included a diverse intellectual and critical program with the participation of a select group of researchers and theatre practitioners, in addition to several competitions and interactive activities that attracted a wide audience.
