CORE SUBJECT
The situation in Sudan and its impact on Egyptian national security
Media personality Mostafa Bakry, member of the House of Representatives, stated that Egypt is facing a "decisive phase" regarding the situation in Sudan, adding that it is "no longer acceptable" for Egypt to continue witnessing the deterioration of humanitarian, security, and military conditions in Sudan.
He continued during the program "Facts and Secrets" broadcast on "Sada El-Balad" on Thursday evening: "It is no longer acceptable to remain silent about division plans, nor is it acceptable to remain silent about the collapse of Sudanese state institutions, and it is also no longer acceptable to allow threats to Egyptian national security from the southern direction."
He affirmed that Egypt does not seek war and always works towards stability and ending any military conflicts in the region, citing Egypt's stance and "long patience" in dealing with Ethiopia as an example.
He said: "It seems that Egyptian patience is running out, beware of Cairo's anger," emphasizing that Cairo "will not compromise its national security, nor will it allow Sudan or its institutions to collapse."
He explained that allowing this would open the door to major risks that could reach inside Egypt, mentioning that the statement issued by the Egyptian state represents a message "to all concerned and to all who conspire against Sudan, militias, and mercenaries," stating "We will not allow Sudan to collapse, nor will we allow the destruction of Sudanese state institutions, including the Sudanese army."
He expressed confidence in the Egyptian leadership, saying: "We are confident that the man who rose up on June 30 and July 3 in defense of Egypt's identity, and the great army that sided with the people, cannot allow Sudan to collapse, nor can they allow the compromise of Egyptian national security."
The Egyptian presidency said in a statement on Thursday that Egypt is following with great concern the ongoing escalation and severe tension in Sudan, and the resulting horrific massacres and blatant violations of the most basic human rights against Sudanese civilians, especially in the city of El Fasher (west).
It affirmed that there are red lines that cannot be crossed or compromised as this directly affects Egyptian national security, which is directly linked to Sudanese national security. Among the most important of these red lines is not allowing the separation of any part of Sudanese territory. It also reiterated its firm rejection of the establishment or recognition of any parallel entities, considering that this affects the unity and territorial integrity of Sudan.
