Egypt's stance on the Sudan crisis and its red lines

Egypt emphasized that preserving the institutions of the Sudanese state and preventing any harm to these institutions is another red line for Egypt. Egypt affirms its full right to take all necessary measures and procedures guaranteed by international law and the joint defense agreement between the two brotherly countries to ensure that these red lines are not violated or crossed.

During the visit of Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council, to Cairo, Egypt confirmed its firm and supportive stance towards the security, stability, and territorial integrity of Sudan amid the rapid developments taking place in the Sudanese arena.

Egypt affirmed that Sudan's security is a direct extension of its own national security, stressing the existence of red lines that cannot be allowed to be crossed, foremost of which is preserving Sudan's unity and territorial integrity, rejecting any attempts to separate any part of its territory, establish parallel entities, or recognize them.

The Arab Republic of Egypt reiterated its full support for the vision presented by former U.S. President Donald Trump, aimed at achieving security, stability, and peace in Sudan, within the framework of the international approach aimed at establishing peace, avoiding escalation, and resolving conflicts worldwide.

Egypt expressed deep concern over the ongoing escalation and severe tension in Sudan, which has resulted in serious violations and horrific massacres against civilians, especially in the city of El Fasher, firmly rejecting any practices that violate the most basic human rights.

Egypt also confirmed that preserving the institutions of the Sudanese state and preventing any harm to them is considered another red line, pointing to its full right to take the necessary measures and procedures guaranteed by international law and the joint defense agreement between the two countries, ensuring that these principles are not violated.

At the conclusion of the statement, Egypt renewed its keenness to continue working within the framework of the international quartet, aiming to reach a humanitarian truce that paves the way for a ceasefire, with the establishment of safe humanitarian corridors and shelters to provide the necessary protection for Sudanese civilians, in full coordination with Sudanese state institutions.

This was stated by the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy.
