CORE SUBJECT
Settlement policies in the West Bank and their impact on peace and stability
Dr. Mahmoud Al-Habbash, advisor to the Palestinian president, stated that the Israeli occupation authority's announcement approving the legalization and establishment of 19 new settlements in the West Bank aims to distract global public opinion with part of the settlement issue as a "war crime" stipulated in international law.
He mentioned during a phone interview on the program "Happening in Egypt," broadcast on "MBC Egypt" channel, that all the new and old settlements established by Israel in the West Bank and Gaza Strip are illegal and violate international law.
He pointed out that there are about 750,000 Israeli settlers in the West Bank, emphasizing that peace and stability will not be achieved except by dismantling all Israeli settlements in the West Bank and preventing the displacement of Palestinians from their lands.
The Arab Republic of Egypt strongly condemned Israel, the occupying power, for continuing its illegal settlement policies, the latest of which is the approval of the legalization and establishment of 19 new settlements in the occupied West Bank, which constitutes a blatant violation of international law provisions and relevant international legitimacy resolutions, foremost among them Security Council resolutions affirming the illegality of settlements in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, the Arab Republic of Egypt renewed its full rejection of all forms of settlement expansion, considering it a major obstacle to achieving the two-state solution and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
It called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and take effective measures to stop these violations and protect the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, contributing to reviving the political process and achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East region.
