PM's crackdown on 'hate and division'; a 'heartbreaking beyond words' funeral; and Snicko in Ashes spotlight again

Labor has announced it will strengthen hate speech laws - including to target religious preachers - and create new powers to cancel or reject visas of people who spread "hate and division" in the wake of the Bondi beach shooting. Anthony Albanese appeared alongside Jillian Segal to say his government "adopts and fully supports" the envoy's plan to combat antisemitism while conceding he could have done more after the Hamas attack on 7 October.

Sussan Ley urged the prime minister to recall parliament before Christmas "to pass legislation to eradicate antisemitism" before laying out the Coalition's preferred program.

Sport-loving Bondi local Adam Smyth, who died while taking a walk with his wife, became the 14th victim named. Seventeen people remain in hospital, with two in a critical condition and three in a critical but stable condition.

The flags returned to the sands of Bondi beach for the first time since Sunday. Archer Park and the bridge where the shooting took place were also reopened to the public this morning as the crime scene was lifted and police tape removed.

Mourners gathered in Sydney for the "heartbreaking beyond words" funeral of 10-year-old Matilda - the youngest of the 15 Bondi shooting victims - and Tibor Weitzen, described by his grandson as a man full of "life, joy, smiles and laughter".

Flowers, prayers and stuffed animals were among the tributes left outside the Bondi Pavilion by mourners remembering the victims of Sunday's terror attack.

"Thank you ... for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter."
