CORE SUBJECT
Impact of U.S. Sanctions on Venezuelan Oil Exports
Venezuela announced on Wednesday that its oil exports are proceeding normally, one day after U.S. President Donald Trump issued an order to impose sanctions on all oil tankers subject to sanctions heading to or from Venezuela.
The state-owned Venezuelan oil company (PDVSA) said in a statement on Facebook that its oil tankers continue their voyages "in the legitimate exercise of the right to free navigation and free trade."
Trump's announcement came on Tuesday amid escalating tensions with Venezuela.
In a post on his platform "Truth Social," the U.S. president accused Venezuela of "stealing oil, land, and other assets" from the United States and demanded their immediate return.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil said he held a phone call with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to discuss Trump's recent moves, including the risks they pose to Latin America and the Caribbean region.
Gil wrote on Instagram that Wang expressed China's solidarity and "decisive support" for Venezuela, adding that he also conveyed a message from Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to Chinese President Xi Jinping, without revealing further details.
Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum called on the United Nations to mediate the conflict to prevent further bloodshed, accusing the organization of failing to act.
