CORE SUBJECT
Israeli artillery shelling in Gaza and Palestinian injuries
Eleven Palestinians were injured today, Wednesday, following Israeli artillery shelling targeting an area in Gaza City from which the Israeli army had previously withdrawn under a ceasefire agreement.
Medical sources reported that 11 injured individuals arrived at hospitals in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli shelling.
Eyewitnesses said that an artillery shell fell in the middle of a gathering of civilians in the Al-Samer area of Gaza City.
The targeted area is within the zones from which the Israeli army withdrew as part of the first phase of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which came into effect on October 10.
The Israeli occupation army still controls the southern and eastern strips of the Gaza Strip, in addition to large parts of northern Gaza, continuing to occupy about 60% of the territory.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army claimed that the shelling on Gaza City resulted from a shell that deviated from its course and was not an airstrike. It pointed out that while destroying infrastructure in an area inside the yellow line (referring to areas still occupied), one of the shells significantly deviated from its path and instead of hitting the target, struck the center of Gaza City.
Israel continues to violate the ceasefire agreement it signed with Hamas, having committed hundreds of violations up to last Thursday and killed 394 Palestinians, according to official sources in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli extermination war in Gaza—which began on October 8, 2023, and has lasted for two years—has resulted in more than 70,000 martyrs and over 171,000 wounded, most of whom are children and women.
In addition to the martyrs—mostly children and women—Israel has caused massive destruction in Gaza, with the United Nations estimating the reconstruction cost at about 70 billion dollars.
