Arrest of 9 People for Collecting Personal IDs and Offering Electoral Bribes in Runoff Elections in 55 Districts

The security apparatus of the Ministry of Interior arrested 9 individuals, including a woman, on charges of persuading voters to vote for specific candidates and possessing sums of money intended to be distributed to voters as electoral bribes to vote for a particular candidate.

Security services responsible for securing one of the electoral districts in the jurisdiction of Al-Janayin Police Department in Suez managed to apprehend two individuals near the district, in possession of several personal ID cards belonging to some citizens and cash intended to be distributed to voters when they visit their electoral districts to encourage them to vote for a certain candidate.

The security authorities also uncovered the circumstances of a video circulated on social media showing a woman, a supporter of one of the candidates, in front of an electoral committee in the jurisdiction of Thalith Al-Mahalla Police Department in Gharbia, urging voters to vote in favor of that candidate.

Upon investigation, the woman in the video was identified and arrested near the electoral committee related to the mentioned candidate, and upon confrontation, she admitted to the incident as described.

Additionally, security services securing an electoral district in the jurisdiction of Ashmoun Police Center in Menoufia arrested a person near the district in possession of cash intended to be distributed to voters to encourage them to vote for a certain candidate.

Security services securing an electoral district in the jurisdiction of Al-Arbaeen Police Department in Suez arrested three individuals near the district, in possession of several personal ID cards of citizens and cash intended to be distributed to voters to encourage them to vote for a certain candidate.

Security services securing an electoral district in the jurisdiction of Al-Qassasin Police Center in Ismailia arrested an individual near the district, in possession of personal ID cards of several citizens, food supplies, and cash intended to be distributed to voters to encourage them to vote for a certain candidate.

The security authorities also uncovered the circumstances of a video circulated on social media showing a person collecting several personal ID cards of some citizens to urge them to vote for a certain candidate in one of the electoral districts in the jurisdiction of Al-Janayin Police Department in Suez.

The person appearing in the video (resident in the jurisdiction) was identified and arrested, and upon confrontation, he admitted to the incident as described.

Legal procedures were taken for each case separately and referred to the Public Prosecution for investigation.

The runoff elections are being held in 55 electoral districts distributed across 13 governorates, with 202 candidates competing, including 84 party candidates and 118 independent candidates, for 101 seats in the House of Representatives, after 40 candidates secured their seats in the first round, alongside the conclusion of competition in 18 electoral districts during the same round.

The second phase of the elections includes the governorates of Cairo, Qalyubia, Dakahlia, Menoufia, Gharbia, Kafr El Sheikh, Sharqia, Damietta, Port Said, Ismailia, Suez, North Sinai, and South Sinai.
